our God reigns

ourgodreigns

I’ve really been disappointed with my prayer times lately. Every now and then I’ll have times where I just can’t seem to get through, and if I’m honest (like you’d expect that from me), I’ll begin to feel like I’m wasting time.

This morning I was just meditating on the simple fact that our God reigns. He’s a soveriegn Lord. He isn’t pacing the throne trying to figure out what to do next. He’s soverign. He’s sitting on the throne. He’s in control. Everything is under His authority. Absolutely everything.

The economy has nothing on Him.

Politics doesn’t even have a chance of overthrowing our glorious King.

Our present circumstances aren’t worth comparing to His glory.

It was like God was saying today, “Are you kidding me with all of this stuff? It’s nothing. Meaningless. I reign. Did you forget that?”

Everything changed and I suddenly began to cry, smile, weep, laugh, grunt, cry. I know, it sounds weird. It was one of the best prayer times I’ve had in a long time. My heart grasped again what my head already knows.

I don’t remember when I started praying. I can’t really tell you what I prayed for. But I can tell you it was great. Maybe it was because my focus was on the fact that God is God and I am not (sigh of relief).

So remember that our God reigns. Let it go. All of it.

  1. Great post! A similar thing happened to me this morning, but Revealtion 5 was the catalyst that drove me to my face. Please read it yesterday for how true worship goes down. Thanks Drew for inspiring!

I can’t tell you how often that’s happened to me. Or maybe my experience is different. I fell I am praying on earnest, but I feel the response is “empty”. Not that God isn’t listening. Just that there’s no response. Then God in His kind and loving grace points out how my focus isn’t on Him and who He is. Sometimes it’s a nudge, a poke or even a slap upside the head with a mack truck. He gets me to adjust my perspective to see God clearer.

    Great post to uplift.
