Corporate Part 2

28Aug08

(If you haven’t read part 1, read it here.)

Someone once said, “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

Some people just don’t like organized religion and some don’t like bodies of people. Some don’t like church. I must confess I don’t like church either; if by church you mean a bunch of religious meetings and words without fruit or action. But if your definition of church is a bunch of people coming together, corporatley loving God, and then loving people, and then being moved into action and serving those God told us to take care of, then I’m game 52 weeks out of the year.

Jesus is the someone who said, “when a few of you folk assemble, I’ll be there.” And when Jesus shows up, the world gets flipped.

I come to a corporate gathering to grow in my faith. I grow in my faith so that I may be a better disciple maker. I also come because it’s a great evangelism tool and entry point into God’s Kingdom. Sometimes (but not all the time!) leading people to the Lord is as easy as getting them in the doors of the church.

Listening to Jesus, and looking at His life example, I am convinced that serving others and making disciples is the definition of spiritual maturity. THAT is why we assemble on Sundays. THAT is why we must be a corporate body. Sunday is more than a show.

For some, Sunday is when divorce papers are shredded and family trees aren’t cut down.
