Worship & Life

30Apr08
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” – Romans 12:1
This idea of worshiping from the very being of who we are is so counter American. Are we really supposed to be “living sacrifices”. You mean, worship is more than a few songs on Sunday morning?
I’m working on two messages that I’ll teach soon. The first is on Transformation (life change through Christ) and the other is about what worship really means. This verse actually ties the two different Transformation & Worship messages together.
A healthy pastor will have two study modes.
  1. Personal Study
  2. Teaching Study

(Sadly, some pastors get in the pit of studying God for the sake of teaching, and not for the personal relationship with Him. This always ends bad.)

In efforts to seek God for my personal well being, God continues to speak to me about this stuff. I guess this is great though: personal revelation and application is key in communcating the Gospel.
You have to smoke what you’re selling.
Last night, as I was praying, I felt God tell me that it was possible to worship Him without a guitar, without Chris Tomlin, and without mood lighting. It’s completly possible to worship God without a song or even music.
But it’s completely impossible to worship Him without sacrifice. I’m saddened to see that a large amount of churches have brought God more of a production than a sacrifice.

One Response to “Worship & Life”
